Rules

These are the rules as they were originally posted on 6.May.2005. There were a few minor updates between then and the championships, and they will be put online as soon as we dig them out from a backup of the old site. Sorry.

Safety

All contestants take part in races at their own risk! This means that you're responsible for making sure your vehicle can steer and brake adequately and that you have control over it. The road race will take place on road that is open to other traffic; it is thus very important that you drive safely and obey the Danish trafic regulations (drive only on the right lane, allow others to overtake, etc). The organizers will make sure that guards are posted at corners to heighten safety, but ultimately the responsibility is yours!

  • Your vehicle must have a chainguard (unless it's hidden by a fairing).
  • You must wear a helmet.
  • You must be able to control your vehicle (brake, steer, balance).

Vehicle classes

You will score points in one or more of these classes, depending on the type of your vehicle:

Not faired
for vehicles with no fairing. The Velokraft Nocom is the most extreme allowed in this class.
Partially faired
for vehicles with at most front or rear fairing. The Birkenstock Comet is the most rear fairing allowed in this class. Front fairing must be in front of rider, not above and to the sides. The rider must be able to get in and out without (re)moving parts from the vehicle. Ask if in doubt.
Open
for all vehicles. This includes fully faired bikes, velomobiles, and vehicles with front and rear fairing even if there's no fairing inbetween.

NOTE: if you wish to ride a vehicle that's very close to the borders of the definitions, please contact the race management to get a ruling on your vehicle before the competition. Be prepared to present pictures of your vehicle for inspection.

All vehicles must be purely human powered, as usually.

You're allowed to choose different vehicles for each category (read the section on this below).

Rider classes

You will score points in exactly one of these classes:

  • Girls (age 14 or less)
  • Boys (age 14 or less)
  • Women (age 15 or more)
  • Men (age 15 or more)

The date 19th august 1990 decides whether you're 15. Born before this date means you're a woman/man; born on or later than that date you're a girl/boy.

Points

For each race you will get points in your rider class and all vehicle classes that apply to you.

If you are riding a fully faired bike, you will get points in the Open vehicle class only. If you are riding a non-faired bike, you will get points in all vehicle classes. If you're riding a bike with tailfairing, will get points in Partially-Faired and Open vehicle classes.

This means that you're allowed to select different vehicles for each race, but you might not score points in all classes then.

Doing it like this enables us to determine a true winner (winner of Open vehicle class) as well as categorized winners (best non-faired, best partially-faired). There will be a winner for each rider class.

The amount of points received depends on your ranking and the number of contestants who entered the race. We generally give a total of 10 points per contestant, so the more contestants, the higher scores. A 4th place in a race with 4 riders gives 5 points. 4th place in a race with 20 riders gives 20 points. In case of a shared ranking all riders get the number of points that applies to the rank (if three riders share 4th place, they all get points for a 4th place).

The full points table is too large to post here, but will be available at the races. The table for up to 30 contestants can be seen at http://www.hpv-klub.dk/formelt/ReglementHPV-konkurrencer04.htm (number of contestants down, ranking across).
For 100 contestants, the first 10 will get 87, 79, 72, 65, 59, 54, 49, 45, 41, 37 points.

The points for each class will of course depend on the number of contestants in that class and your ranking within that class.

Riders who abandon the race due to a crash or a "legal defect" are given 1 point. A "legal defect" can e.g. be a puncture, broken gears or other technical problems with the vehicle.

Details about the point system have been added after the championships.

Prizes

We will present prizes to the winners, 2nd and 3rd places of each class, calculated as a total of all three races at the event. If a class has few contestants, we will reserve the right to combine two or more classes into one OR to limit the number of prizes awarded in that class. This will be made public before the event.

Ties in total points are broken by looking at the highest score achieved in either of the races.
